University Chouaib Doukkali El Jadida (UCDEJ)

Chouaïb Doukkali University is a non-profit public higher education institution located in El Jadida. It accounts around 16000 students, 500 professors and 250 administratives. It offers courses and programs leading undergraduate diplomas, bachelor degrees and doctorate degrees in several areas of study. The University also provides facilities to conduct research in different scientific areas, including agricultural sciences. The laboratory of Plant Biotechnology and Ecosystem Valorization is hosted at the department of Biology, Faculty of Sciences and is devoted to conduct research aimed to develop alternative control methods for fungal, bacterial and viral diseases of crops.

Research interest

Research lines include: i) Valorisation of algal resources in the field of plant protection and in vitro plant tissue culture; ii) isolation and semisynthesis of triterpenoid compounds from wild plant species and their use as new inducers of plant diseases resistance against fungal, bacterial and viral diseases; iii) isolation, molecular characterization of Pepino Mosaic Virus and other new emerging phytovirus in the Mediterranean Basin and cross protection; iv) Plant transformation using genes involved in disease resistance
