University of Ain Shams (UAS), Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Agricultural Microbiology, Virology Lab.

Ain Shams University, as the third Egyptian university, was founded in July 1950 under the name of "Ibrahim Pasha University". It participated with the two earlier universities, "Cairo University" (Fua'd the 1st) and "Alexandria University" (Farouk the 1st) in fulfilling the message of universities and meeting the increasing demand of youth for higher education.

UAS seeks to achieve excellence in the field of higher education and scientific research at the local, regional and global scale in a climate of independence, freedom, democracy, equality and contribute to the service of society and achieve sustainable development. Its Faculty of Agriculture aims to become a distinguished research and guidance educational institution with a dynamic nature that is capable of fulfilling Egyptian and regional agriculture requirements. The Department of Agricultural Microbiology conducts research dealing with different microbiological activities such as biofertilization, application of agricultural and industrial wastes for the production of highly valuable substances such as biogas, enzymes, alcohols, organic acids, vitamins, organic solvents and single cell protein. It also address problems regarding plant viruses induced diseases.

Research interest:

Within the department’s interest in research studies on the diagnosis of viral diseases of economic crops and the production of virus free seeds, this group works on viral diseases and the analysis of systemic acquired resistance by biotic and abiotic inducers.

Regarding EMERAMB it is interested in developing cross-protection and other plant immunity-based systems as methods to control emergent viral diseases.
